. >>> two more planes are joining the relief effort to help victims of superstorm sandy. ktvu's ken pritchett joins us live with how they will help. ken? >> reporter: the air force will do what it does best and that is move an incredible amount of equipment in a matter of hours. >> the large cargo planes that make the effort possible but it is the men and women who will do the real work. >> we have active duty, reserve, and we have family members. >> reporter: he says this c-17 plane is just one of two launched today at 2:00 a.m. the largest plane, the c5 was loaded up with equipment and 30 personnel to help. at march air force base, they will join planes that will be loaded up with 600 tons of supplies to support relief efforts on the east coast. including 60 vehicles from southern california edison. >> they will move equipment and personnel to new york that will allow us to turn the light switch on for the east coast. >> reporter: some or all of these planes were scheduled to arrive on the east coast today but we haven't received a confirmation that they have arrived. the mission
